Sage 50 Software - Licensing

What is in a name? When it comes to Sage Licensing it really DOES matter if the
name on your account is wrong.
If you have your software registered in the name of a Limited company that
ceases trading the software disappears.
Sage are getting tough on Licensing, if you want to transfer from one legal
entity to another it is very difficult and should a legal entity be liquidated
then the licence might go with it.
There are thousands of unused licences for Sage Software and occasionally
there has been the odd person who transfers the licence to another company effectively
selling their software second hand. This is great for the people buying
and selling software but not so good for Sage.
Sage are now making it tougher than ever to transfer a licence.
Alarmingly they are also destroying licences of companies going into
liquidation, to prevent the receivers from reselling he software and recovering
any of the asset value. Recently a company I deal with liquidated one of
the group, it was the company holding the Sage Licence, needless to say it cause
a lot of un-needed hassle and expense.
I would suggest that any owner manager type business registering software,
should do so in their own name* as even if it stops being used or the business
folds it could be reactivated years later for a future project at a fraction of
the cost of buying new.
If you want to check what name your software is registered in, want to
re-register it to a new business name, reactivate it, transfer it or anything
else we can provide you with the forms and guidance to help you make the
transfer.
*Sage software registered to an individual/sole trader needs the least amount
of paper work to change the name. (If you are eXwhYZed Ltd, registering your
software to eXwhYZed would enable you to keep and transfer the licence (as a
sole trader using a trading name) to any other trading name with the minimum of
fuss.
